Common Causes of Facial Veins

Common-Causes-of-Facial-Veins

No one wants to have a skin disorder, discoloration, or defect on any part of their body. However, if the skin defect is in a place where most people can’t see it, people usually do not worry about it so much. The problem arises when these skin defects take place somewhere that is very noticeable, like our face. Then it goes from being a mild annoyance to being something that is devastating. This is true when talking about facial veins.

Usually, when people talk about varicose veins or spider veins, they are talking about those veins that appear on the legs. Sometimes you see them on a person’s calf or behind the knee. Unfortunately, these same veins can pop up on the face. They are red, they are visible and they can create some serious cosmetic concerns. Thankfully, cosmetic professionals have identified some of the causes of facial veins, and they have worked to create treatments that are effective at removing them.

Varicose veins and spider veins are the results of a medical disease that is known as venous insufficiency. Little valves that we have in our veins have the responsibility of making sure that the blood goes through the veins in the same direction and in a uniform way. Unfortunately, like other parts of our body, these valves can start to break down and wear out. As a result, blood may accumulate inside the blood vessel. The vein starts to swell, and you start to see the vein through the surface of the skin.

Facial veins, however, seem to appear as a result of different factors. Some of the reasons why you will see facial veins are because a person is overexposed to the sun, their face has had skin trauma, they use steroids, it is something that runs in the family, they have a hormonal imbalance, they abuse alcohol or it could be a natural side effect of aging.

Facial veins will appear in different quantities and different sizes, depending on the individual. In some instances, the veins are barely noticeable. In other instances, a person might have large networks of veins that are visible and that can drastically affect their self-confidence. Thankfully, there are non-surgical treatment options that are available to remove these veins, leaving a person looking more attractive and feeling more confident in a short amount of time.

Many vein removal procedures use a special laser to cause the vein to seal shut. Once the vein collapses, it shrivels up, it dies and the body absorbs it. The nice thing about these non-surgical facial vein removal treatments is that there is no downtime. The patient does not experience much discomfort during the treatment, and they are able to go back to their normal activities right after the procedure.

For many people, facial veins affect their self-confidence. They make them feel embarrassed, and they make them want to shy away from others. Thankfully, laser treatments at Nuance Aesthetics in Salt Lake City can make your facial veins a thing of the past. Contact us today to schedule a consultation to learn more.

Jackson Rhudy, MD

Owner/Medical Director

Dr. Jackson Rhudy is a board-certified physician who has been practicing in Salt Lake since 1974. After an initial career in emergency medicine, he developed an interest in the new technologies emerging in the field of aesthetics utilizing non-surgical techniques such as lasers, Botox, and injectable fillers. He sought training from leading experts in the aesthetic field at multiple locations in the US and Europe and in 2000 he founded an aesthetic practice called Light Touch Laser Skin Care Center. It rapidly became a leading aesthetic practice in the Salt Lake City area. In 2010, he sold the practice and focused on his other endeavor, Optimum Clinical Research– a private research site that performs clinical trials on new pharmaceutical drugs. But continuing demand from former aesthetic patients led to the formation of a new aesthetic practice in July 2015. Reuniting with a former colleague, Jill Miller, they started Nuance Aesthetics—a practice devoted to providing excellence in the field of non-surgical aesthetics by offering experience and expertise with the utmost integrity. Dr. Rhudy maintains his board certification in emergency medicine and is the only physician in Salt Lake City who is board certified in laser surgery.

When Dr Rhudy isn’t in the office, he loves riding his bike up City Creek. He has always had a passion for learning and growing in the medical field which is why he spends a lot of free time researching the latest treatments and technology that keeps Nuance ahead of the curve.
