If you have been struggling to get rid of stubborn fat under your chin and have been looking around at different fat removal options, it is likely that you have heard about Kybella®. This is a treatment that is especially designed to reduce submental fullness. Before you decide if it is right for you, here are some things you should know about the treatment.

How Does Kybella® Work?

This product contains deoxycholic acid. This is a synthetic form of an acid that helps to break down dietary fat in the digestive system. It is found in the bile. When the synthetic form is injected under the chin, it breaks down the walls of the fat cells. Since the fat cells are no longer able to hold onto their fatty content, they release the content. The body naturally starts to flush out the debris from the cells and all of the fat.

As this process takes place, it means that a person is going to see a gradual reduction in the fat under their chin. They are going to enjoy a more defined profile and a more youthful and attractive look.

Many have found that this treatment is a great alternative to using liposuction on the neck. Since it requires the use of injections as opposed to surgery, a person does not need to worry about the same downtime or risks that would exist if a person used liposuction. Actually, as soon as the injections are over, a person can pretty much get back to normal life. There are no big restrictions as to what a person can and can’t do afterward.

At this time, the FDA has only approved Kybella® to be used to reduce supplemental fullness. Each person is going to get different results with the product. This is because everyone has a different amount of fat under their chin, and there are other factors that make each case unique.

Are You a Good Candidate?

You may be a good candidate for Kybella® if your double chin is primarily made of fat. Some individuals have fat and excess skin under their chin. This injectable product will not do anything to tighten the skin, so if you have a lot of loose skin, the problem may be made more obvious after the fat has been removed with this injectable product. We can talk to you about using another procedure or some form of skin tightening in order to give you the best results.

The best way to find out about your candidacy for Kybella® is to schedule a consultation at Nuance Aesthetics in Salt Lake City. We would be happy to tell you more about how this treatment works. Contact us today to book your appointment and get started!

Owner/Medical Director

Dr. Jackson Rhudy is a board-certified physician who has been practicing in Salt Lake since 1974. After an initial career in emergency medicine, he developed an interest in the new technologies emerging in the field of aesthetics utilizing non-surgical techniques such as lasers, Botox, and injectable fillers. He sought training from leading experts in the aesthetic field at multiple locations in the US and Europe and in 2000 he founded an aesthetic practice called Light Touch Laser Skin Care Center. It rapidly became a leading aesthetic practice in the Salt Lake City area. In 2010, he sold the practice and focused on his other endeavor, Optimum Clinical Research– a private research site that performs clinical trials on new pharmaceutical drugs. But continuing demand from former aesthetic patients led to the formation of a new aesthetic practice in July 2015. Reuniting with a former colleague, Jill Miller, they started Nuance Aesthetics—a practice devoted to providing excellence in the field of non-surgical aesthetics by offering experience and expertise with the utmost integrity. Dr. Rhudy maintains his board certification in emergency medicine and is the only physician in Salt Lake City who is board certified in laser surgery.

When Dr Rhudy isn’t in the office, he loves riding his bike up City Creek. He has always had a passion for learning and growing in the medical field which is why he spends a lot of free time researching the latest treatments and technology that keeps Nuance ahead of the curve.
