How Does Your Body Get Rid of Fat After Coolsculpting

Beautiful girl recieveing Coolsculpting Treatment in Nuance Aesthetics in Salt Lake City, Utah

Physical appearance is part of personal development, and surely everybody wants to look good and feel good about themselves. A lot have resorted to different means to lose the body fat they have. Some did exercises or activities to shed that extra flab and those who resorted to surgery.

However, there are still what we call “stubborn fat” that just won’t go away regardless of how bad we work out to shed them. These pinchable fat are usually seen in the belly area or what we call “love handles”. Some are in the arms and legs and face. To achieve a more toned body, the medical industry focused on developing procedures that would target stubborn fat reduction as a finishing touch to those who did all they could but couldn’t get rid of it.

Fat is more sensitive to the rise and fall of temperature rather than the skin. This is also the same principle applied to fat cells. One of the technologies developed to shed fat by utilizing temperature is called CoolSculpting. In this procedure, the affected area will be wrapped with a device with the surface in contact with the skin. The surface’s temperature will then be controlled to a certain degree, which will cool the fat cells. At a certain level, fat cells will then be prompted to a process called Apoptosis. This is where fat cells will be dissolved, and your body digests its by-products. Basically, you are cooling down the skin to a temperature where the fats are hurt, but the skin isn’t, and this is why this treatment works. CoolSculpting is FDA-approved and is the number 1 non-surgical treatment that has been scientifically proven to work wonders.

How does Coolsculpting work?

The procedure is simple. A device is used to freeze and destroy the fat cells under the skin. This device is made up of rounded paddles in one of four sizes used to suction the skin and fat, like how a vacuum cleaner works. In the clinic, you will be asked to sit on a reclined chair for about two hours. There will be cooling panels all set up to crystalize your fat cells. Fair warning, there will be a slight discomfort, but it is tolerable. The suction and cooling sensation will go numb eventually, and this will help you to stay relaxed. You can even bring a laptop while doing the treatment, watch a movie, or even nap during the process.

Meanwhile, what is happening is that the fats are gradually broken down and removed from the body by the liver. The cold temperature will cool the fat cells under the skin until it isn’t able to take the temperature and die due to cold. This process is called Cryolipolysis, wherein it targets the fats but does not damage the tissue surrounding it. After the procedure, the excess fats become a waste product and are processed by the lymphatic system before it is permanently removed from the body. The dead fat cells will naturally be regenerated safely in the following weeks of succeeding treatment.

Scientifically, fat cells can either expand or shrink when we gain or lose weight. These cells are constantly present in our lives, except if they are removed. At -9C, fat cells are chilled for about 35 to 75 minutes until they die. The duration will depend on the body. During the procedure, the other cells will be left unharmed, and after the treatment ends, the frozen fat will be massaged. This is to move the damaged crystallized fat cells so that the body will refrain from repairing them. It has proven that CoolSculpting can permanently remove fat cells in the treated areas by approximately 25%. Because of the death of the fat cells, there will be a reduction in its numbers and will eventually stop growing, which will then be secreted as waste.

However, because fat cells constantly exist in our body, there is a possibility that the patient can gain weight due to the remaining fat cells that can expand. This is why maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle contributes to the success of this treatment. CoolSculpting is one treatment that can be part of your lifestyle. However, a shift in your daily diet and activities should be improved as well. Otherwise, all the hard work that goes to the treatment will be in vain.

It will take about 2 to 3 days for the damaged fat cells to die. These Fat Cells will be flushed out of the body after 2 to 4 months. The skin may be the nearest thing to the cell. However, it will not be affected. With CoolSculpting treatments, you will not need to worry about reaching your body goals as long as you continue to focus on keeping a healthy and active lifestyle. Consistency is the key.

At Nuance Aesthetics, it has been proven that visible improvement in the treated area will be experienced after three weeks of the treatment session. However, CoolSculpting normally shows full treatment effects after 2 – 4 months of treatment sessions. Results vary and would greatly depend on the patient’s condition.

However, do take note that this treatment is best for someone with pinchable plump fat in one area. CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss solution. This is ideal for a person who is close to reaching their ideal weight. This is for those who have exhausted the diet and exercise regimens but still have some stubborn fat cells in the areas of the body, especially for the outer or inner thigh or the belly. This is the most difficult part of sculpting, but it is doable. Another thing a patient should consider is that CoolSculpting will only really work if the patient regularly goes for their follow up treatment sessions.

To be specific, CoolSculpting can treat the areas of the stomach and abdomen, tights, arms, love handles and flanks, back bulge and bra area, under buttocks, double chin under the neck and the male chest. The main benefit of getting this treatment is that it gives you natural-looking results, plus it is both convenient and comfortable. However, this treatment may not be for everybody. Coolsculpting should only be done once overall body weight has been reduced.

Nothing comes easy. You have got to carry your weight when you commit to a certain treatment. Follow-up treatment sessions matched with a committed healthy lifestyle and exercise would give you the ideal results you need to look your best. However, with CoolSculpting, you can do your treatments at the comforts of a clinic and a professional.

Dr. Jackson Rhudy is a board-certified physician who has been practicing in Salt Lake since 1974. After an initial career in emergency medicine, he developed an interest in the new technologies emerging in the field of aesthetics utilizing non-surgical techniques such as lasers, Botox, and injectable fillers. He sought training from leading experts in the aesthetic field at multiple locations in the US and Europe and in 2000 he founded an aesthetic practice called Light Touch Laser Skin Care Center. In 2010, he sold the practice and focused on his other endeavor, Optimum Clinical Research– a private research site that performs clinical trials on new pharmaceutical drugs. But continuing demand from former aesthetic patients led to the formation of a new aesthetic practice in July 2015. Reuniting with a former colleague, Jill Miller, they started Nuance Aesthetics—a practice devoted to providing excellence in the field of non-surgical aesthetics by offering experience and expertise with the utmost integrity. Dr. Rhudy maintains his board certification in emergency medicine and is the only physician in Salt Lake City who is board certified in laser surgery.
