How long does it take for Restylane LYFT to work?

Beautiful girl recieveing Restylane LYFT Injection in Nuance Aesthetics in Salt Lake City, Utah

Restylane LYFT (previously branded as Perlane) is an FDA-approved injectable gel dermal filler known for smoothing out wrinkles and folds and fixing midface problems to refine facial features. It is composed of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance that already exists in the body. This gel is injected into the parts of the face that must be smoothened out. This gel fills out the ridges under your skin to put volume into the cheeks and reduce the laugh lines from nose to the corners of the mouth. This can also be used to smoothen out wrinkles on the hands.

With the latest improvements on the product, Galderma’s Restylane® Lyft is now with 0.3% Lidocaine to reduce discomfort and pain associated with the treatment. This is non-animal-based and free from animal protein. Allergy pretesting is not necessary.

The difference between Restylane Lyft and Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine and the effectiveness of lidocaine to reduce discomfort and pain was tested in a clinical study between 60 patients. A split-face experiment was done with the participants where Restylane Lyft was injected in one side of the face while Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine was injected on the other side of the face. It was proven that Restylane with Lidocaine did reduce the pain of injection. The side of the face which was injected without Lidocaine had a pain scale of 47 on average (1-100 range) while the side of the face which was injected with Restylane with Lidocaine had a pain scale of 15 on average (1-100 range). These participants have also reported that the effect of Lidocaine in the filler lasted for 60 minutes after the procedure.

How long will it take for Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine to take effect?

The effect of Restylane fillers is immediate. Patients see the results of the fillers right after the procedure. Restylane Lyft does not have any downtime, however, it may take up to 4 weeks for the full result to take effect and be visible. This also slows down visible signs of aging.

When we age, production of HA, elastin, and collagen that makes the skin look firmer and younger also slows down thus the introduction of these components into the skin through dermal fillers is the easiest way to regain that youthful look. The introduction of HA through dermal filling also stimulates the production of elastin and collagen in the long run.

How does Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine work?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance under the skin that binds water. This, in turn, helps put volume in the skin and keeps skin moisturized and vibrant. As we age, the production of HA in the body is slowed down and upon production degrades quickly thus causing the skin to sag and lose moisture. Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine is equipped with stabilizing technology that helps sustain the substance to keep it from degrading quickly.

Where can Restylane Lyft be injected?

Dermal filling is minimally invasive and nonsurgical and does not require downtime after the treatment. This can be injected to fix laugh lines such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines — lines forming from the side of your nose down to the corner of your mouth down to the chin and all the way back up as well as the lines at the sides of your eyes. These are lines that become evident as you grow old.

Aside from the wrinkles, Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine can also be injected to lift the cheeks to achieve a plumper look.

When the Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine is injected, the gel occupies the gaps under the skin that cause facial lines which creates a better, smoother, younger, and healthier skin.

How long will a session last? How long will the effect last?

A Lyft session typically lasts for around 15-45 minutes per session, depending on the number of injections and parts to be treated.

For treatments on wrinkles and folds, Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine may last for up to 6 months until the gel gradually disappears from the body. For cheek injections, Restylane Lyft may last between two to twelve months. Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine could provide immediate but non-permanent results however successive sessions can be done based on the consultation with a physician.

Are there any side effects to be expected?

Based on clinical studies, two kinds of side effects may be experienced:

  • Injection side effect (the area where the gel was introduced to the body)
  • Dermal filler side effects (reaction of underlying muscles to the treatment)

Some post-treatment side effects may be experienced such as:

  • redness, bruising or tenderness, swelling and pain around the area where the injection was made
  • impaired hand function, a slight decrease in the flexibility of your thumb after Restylane Lyft injection on the hands
  • headache
  • Skin inflammation
  • bumps

These side effects are typically mild in severity and will resolve in no more than 2 weeks. Should more serious side effects appear and last for more than 2 weeks, patients should contact the clinic and your doctor immediately.

All precautionary measures will be discussed by your physician prior to treatment. It is very important that patients will be very honest with their information and their medical history to avoid or at least minimize risks. Pregnant women are highly discouraged from undergoing the treatment.

The clinical studies were conducted with participants between the age of 22 and 65, thus it is also not advisable for patients less than 22 years of age and more than 65 years of age undergo this treatment.

Advise your physician of any medication, if there are any, you presently are taking to avoid contraindication which could result in complications. Accordingly, patients who are allergic to hyaluronic acid-based products and lidocaine should not have this treatment. On rare occasions, the accidental injection of this treatment to the blood vessel may be possible. If this happens, although with small possibility, the effects may be serious and permanent. Choose a clinic that is known to practice the best medical care and practices for their patients. Therefore, it is best to check the clinics offering these services first as well as their success records before starting with the treatment. Consultation with the physician is a best practice and the complete honesty of your medical history is imperative.

Jackson Rhudy, MD

Owner/Medical Director

Dr. Jackson Rhudy is a board-certified physician who has been practicing in Salt Lake since 1974. After an initial career in emergency medicine, he developed an interest in the new technologies emerging in the field of aesthetics utilizing non-surgical techniques such as lasers, Botox, and injectable fillers. He sought training from leading experts in the aesthetic field at multiple locations in the US and Europe and in 2000 he founded an aesthetic practice called Light Touch Laser Skin Care Center. It rapidly became a leading aesthetic practice in the Salt Lake City area. In 2010, he sold the practice and focused on his other endeavor, Optimum Clinical Research– a private research site that performs clinical trials on new pharmaceutical drugs. But continuing demand from former aesthetic patients led to the formation of a new aesthetic practice in July 2015. Reuniting with a former colleague, Jill Miller, they started Nuance Aesthetics—a practice devoted to providing excellence in the field of non-surgical aesthetics by offering experience and expertise with the utmost integrity. Dr. Rhudy maintains his board certification in emergency medicine and is the only physician in Salt Lake City who is board certified in laser surgery.

When Dr Rhudy isn’t in the office, he loves riding his bike up City Creek. He has always had a passion for learning and growing in the medical field which is why he spends a lot of free time researching the latest treatments and technology that keeps Nuance ahead of the curve.
