What You Can Expect from CoolSculpting Treatments

What You Can Expect from CoolSculpting Treatments

Like most people, you’ve probably suffered from fat deposits that won’t go away despite your best efforts. No amount of diet and exercise can target these pockets of fat, and they can be frustrating to deal with. Fortunately, a solution can help. CoolSculpting is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that can help you eliminate those stubborn areas of fat for good.

This article will examine what CoolSculpting is and what you can expect from the treatment process. Whether you’re considering CoolSculpting for the first time or want to learn more about this popular cosmetic procedure, this article has everything you need to know.

So if you’re overwhelmed with struggling, stubborn fat pockets, read on to see how CoolSculpting can give you the physique you’ve always wanted.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that uses cryolipolysis to target and eliminate stubborn pockets of fat on the body. The treatment is FDA-approved and has been used by millions worldwide to achieve their desired body shape.

So how does CoolSculpting work? During the treatment, a unique device is placed on the target area of the body. The device uses cooling technology to freeze the fat cells underneath the skin without damaging surrounding tissues or structures. The treated area’s fat content decreases when the body gradually rids itself off the frozen fat cells via the lymphatic system.

The science behind CoolSculpting is based on the concept of selective cryolipolysis. Fat cells are more susceptible to freezing than other cells, such as skin or muscle cells. By exposing fat cells to targeted cooling, CoolSculpting can induce apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in the fat cells, leading to their elimination from the body.

Today, CoolSculpting is a popular alternative to traditional liposuction, which is a more invasive surgical procedure. CoolSculpting is non-invasive, requires no anesthesia or downtime, and is generally considered a safe and effective way to eliminate stubborn pockets of fat on the body.

What to Expect During a CoolSculpting Treatment?

If you’re considering a CoolSculpting treatment, you may wonder what to expect during the procedure. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of the process:

    1. Consultation: Before the treatment, you’ll discuss your goals and expectations with us at Nuance Aesthetics. We will evaluate your body and determine if you’re a good candidate for the treatment.

    1. Preparation: During the treatment, a gel pad will be placed on the target area to protect the skin. The CoolSculpting applicator will then be positioned over the treatment area, and suction will be applied to draw the fatty tissue into the applicator.

    1. Cooling: The applicator will then begin to cool the target area, which may cause a sensation of intense cold or discomfort for the first few minutes. However, this discomfort usually subsides as the area becomes numb. Some patients may experience mild tingling or stinging sensations during the procedure, but these are generally well-tolerated.

    1. Treatment time: The length of the treatment depends on the size of the target area and the number of applicators used. Most treatments take between 35 and 60 minutes per area.

    1. Massage: After the treatment, the applicator is removed, and the treated area is gently massaged to help break up any frozen fat cells and improve the final results.

    1. Return to normal activities: Patients can typically resume normal activities immediately after the treatment, with no downtime required.

What concerns or questions may patients have before undergoing the treatment?

Before undergoing a CoolSculpting treatment, it’s normal to have questions or concerns. Some common questions include:

Will the treatment hurt?

While some patients may experience mild discomfort or sensations of cold during the procedure, CoolSculpting is generally well-tolerated, and most patients report feeling comfortable throughout the treatment.

How long will the results last?

CoolSculpting can provide long-lasting results, but maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine can help ensure the results are permanent.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required depends on the size and location of the target area and the patient’s individual goals. We will recommend the best treatment plan for you during your consultation.

What can you expect after CoolSculpting?

After the treatment, you may notice some initial improvements in the target area. However, it usually takes around 2-3 weeks to see the full effects of the treatment, with final results appearing after about 2-3 months. CoolSculpting eliminates targeted fat cells by freezing them, and the body gradually flushes them out through natural processes. Most patients report an average fat reduction of about 20-25% in the treated area.

Recovery after a CoolSculpting treatment is generally minimal, with most patients able to return to normal activities immediately after the procedure. However, some patients may experience minor side effects such as redness, bruising, or swelling in the treated area. These side effects usually resolve independently within a few days to weeks. In rare cases, some patients may experience nerve pain or other more severe side effects, but these are uncommon.

Tips for a successful and speedy recovery after CoolSculpting

To ensure a successful and speedy recovery after CoolSculpting, there are a few things you can do:

    • Hydrate: Drinking plenty of water can help flush out the frozen fat cells more quickly and may reduce side effects like swelling and bruising.

    • Avoid strenuous activity: During a few days following the treatment, it is advised to refrain from heavy activities and exercise to give your body time to heal.

    • Wear loose clothing: Wearing comfortable clothing can help prevent irritation or discomfort in the treated area.

    • Follow your provider’s instructions: We will give you specific instructions on how to care for the treated area after the procedure. Following these instructions carefully ensures a successful recovery and optimal results.

Dr. Jackson Rhudy is a board-certified physician who has been practicing in Salt Lake since 1974. After an initial career in emergency medicine, he developed an interest in the new technologies emerging in the field of aesthetics utilizing non-surgical techniques such as lasers, Botox, and injectable fillers. He sought training from leading experts in the aesthetic field at multiple locations in the US and Europe and in 2000 he founded an aesthetic practice called Light Touch Laser Skin Care Center. It rapidly became a leading aesthetic practice in the Salt Lake City area. In 2010, he sold the practice and focused on his other endeavor, Optimum Clinical Research– a private research site that performs clinical trials on new pharmaceutical drugs. But continuing demand from former aesthetic patients led to the formation of a new aesthetic practice in July 2015. Reuniting with a former colleague, Jill Miller, they started Nuance Aesthetics—a practice devoted to providing excellence in the field of non-surgical aesthetics by offering experience and expertise with the utmost integrity. Dr. Rhudy maintains his board certification in emergency medicine and is the only physician in Salt Lake City who is board certified in laser surgery.
