Pre-Care Instructions

Injectable Dermal Filler Treatment Guide

To ensure safe treatment and optimal results, please follow these guidelines before your appointment:

  • If approved by your primary care provider, avoid blood-thinning substances for 1 week prior, including:
  • Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
  • Aspirin
  • Aleve (Naproxen)
  • Vitamin E
  • Fish Oil
  • Garlic
  • Ginseng
  • St. John’s Wort
  • Ginkgo biloba
  • Primrose oil

  • Avoid alcohol for 1–2 days prior to treatment to reduce bruising risk
  • Bruising and swelling are always possible
  • Schedule treatment at least 2–3 weeks before important events
  • Avoid dental work for 2 weeks prior to treatment
  • Arnica may be used prior to treatment (optional) to help reduce bruising
  • Arrive with clean skin if possible:
  • No makeup
  • Injectable filler treatments are not performed if you are:
  • Pregnant
  • Breastfeeding
  • Leaving town within 5 days

Post-Care Instructions

Proper aftercare is essential for healing and achieving the best results:

First 24 Hours

  • Avoid strenuous exercise
  • Avoid alcohol (especially if bruising occurs, as it may worsen)
  • Makeup use:
  • Preferably wait 4 hours before applying
  • 24 hours is ideal
  • If approved by your provider, continue avoiding blood thinners for up to 1 week if bruising persists
  • Arnica may be used post-treatment (optional) to help reduce bruising

Activity Restrictions

  • Avoid dental work for 2 weeks after treatment
  • Avoid IPL/BBL or microneedling for 1 week
  • Do NOT:
  • Massage the treated area (filler will settle naturally)
  • Sleeping guidance (cheek filler):
  • Avoid sleeping on your side for 48–72 hours

When to Contact Our Office

Please contact us immediately if you experience:

  • Redness or warmth in the treated area several days after treatment
  • Patchy red or hot areas in or around the injection sites
  • Severe or increasing pain
