That One Little Snag

A skin tag can be tiny and still manage to catch on everything: a necklace, a collar, the edge of a razor. If one is getting in your way, skin tag removal at Nuance Aesthetics + Wellness begins with a closer look. We’ll talk through what you’re noticing, whether the spot is appropriate for cosmetic removal, and what to expect before you decide to treat it.

A Closer Look

What Is a Skin Tag?

A skin tag is a small, usually harmless growth that extends from the skin’s surface. Also called an acrochordon, it often feels soft and may be attached by a narrow stalk. Tags commonly appear where skin rubs against skin, clothing, or jewelry, including the neck, underarms, and body folds.

You do not need to remove a confirmed skin tag for health reasons. Many people choose to address one because it snags, becomes irritated, makes shaving awkward, or simply bothers them. The first step is making sure it really is a skin tag. Moles, warts, and even some skin cancers can look similar.

When Small Things Snag

Why Do People Have Skin Tags Removed?

A skin tag is often more annoying than noticeable to anyone else. You may want to have one evaluated if it:

  • Catches on jewelry, a bra strap, or clothing, or develops where skin rubs, including underneath the breasts
  • Gets nicked while shaving
  • Becomes irritated from repeated friction
  • Sits in a visible place you would prefer to keep clear

If the spot is painful, changing, or bleeding without being snagged, that calls for medical evaluation before cosmetic treatment.

First, The Right Call

How Does Skin Tag Removal Work?

There is no single removal approach that is right for every spot. Size, location, skin characteristics, and the certainty of the diagnosis all matter. At your Nuance visit, your provider can assess the growth and explain the recommended approach, expected sensation, and aftercare before any treatment begins.

We won’t treat a spot as “just a skin tag” if its appearance raises a question. An uncertain or suspicious growth should be evaluated by a dermatologist or another appropriate medical specialist. That may include a spot that needs assessment for skin cancer. That extra step protects your skin and gives you a clearer answer.

The Fit Check

Am I a Good Candidate?

A Good Fit

You may be a candidate if a growth has the typical appearance of a skin tag, it bothers you for practical or cosmetic reasons, and the treatment area is healthy. Your provider will review the spot and your health history before suggesting a treatment plan.

When We May Recommend Another Evaluation

Tell us about any rapid growth, changes in color or shape, unexplained bleeding, persistent pain, or a spot that looks different from your other skin growths. A lesion near the eye or in another sensitive area may need a different setting or specialist. We may also recommend waiting if the skin is actively infected or irritated. When removal at Nuance is not the right choice, we’ll be direct about it.

Inside Your Visit

What Happens at a Skin Tag Removal Appointment?

  1. We listen and take a look. Point out each spot you would like assessed and tell us if it has changed, bled, or become irritated.
  2. We review the consultation plan. Your provider will explain whether cosmetic removal is appropriate, the approach they recommend, and what comfort measures or follow-up may be needed.
  3. We treat when appropriate. If you choose to proceed, the provider will care for the area and, when suitable, perform the agreed-upon treatment as a quick procedure. Sensation depends on the location and technique, so ask us what to expect for your particular spot.
  4. You leave with aftercare instructions. We’ll explain how to care for the area, what normal healing can look like, and when to contact us.

If the growth needs medical evaluation instead, we’ll pause the cosmetic treatment and recommend the appropriate next step.

Before We Meet

How Should I Prepare?

  1. Leave the growth alone. Do not cut, tie off, burn, or apply an at-home removal product.
  2. Make a note of changes. Tell your provider if the spot has grown quickly, changed color, hurt, or bled without obvious friction.
  3. Share relevant health information. Mention medications, allergies, a tendency to scar, or any condition that affects healing.
  4. Arrive with clean skin. If possible, skip lotion or makeup over the area so it is easier to assess.

Let It Settle

What Is Recovery Like?

Recovery depends on the location and removal method. You may have temporary tenderness, redness, or a small healing area. Your provider will give you instructions tailored to the treatment performed. In general, avoid picking or rubbing the site, and protect healing skin from the sun. Ask before applying makeup, exfoliating products, or other active skincare directly over it.

Contact our office if you notice increasing pain, spreading redness, warmth, pus, or a fever. If a spot has not healed as expected, let us know. A small mark or change in pigment is possible with skin procedures, so no one should promise a scar-free result.

What Comes Next

When Will I See Results? Can Skin Tags Return?

The timing of the visible result depends on the method selected, and the treated skin still needs time to heal. Your provider can give you a more useful timeline once they have examined the tag and chosen an approach.

A fully removed skin tag generally does not grow back in that exact spot, though new tags can develop elsewhere. If you notice another growth later, have it assessed rather than assuming it is the same thing.

Let's Talk Investment

How Much Does Skin Tag Removal Cost in Salt Lake City?

Skin tag removal cost depends on the number of growths, their size and location, the approach needed, and whether a separate medical evaluation is recommended. We’ll discuss the plan and current pricing before treatment. Removal for cosmetic reasons may not be covered by insurance, so check your benefits if coverage is important to you.

The DIY Reality Check

Professional Removal vs. At-Home Products

Online “skin tag hacks” can make a simple concern much harder to manage. The biggest risk is treating a growth that has not been correctly identified. Home cutting, acids, and other removal products can also cause burns, bleeding, infection, or scarring. A professional assessment gives you a safer conversation about treatment options and an aftercare plan suited to your skin.

Skin Tag Removal Frequently Asked Questions

Comfort varies with the location and the approach used. Your provider will explain the likely sensation and any comfort measures before treatment, so you can make an informed choice.

A photo can be a starting point, but it is not a reliable substitute for an in-person assessment. Moles, warts, and other lesions may resemble skin tags. If a spot is changing, painful, or bleeding without being rubbed, arrange medical evaluation.

We do not recommend it. Home methods can injure the skin, and a growth that looks like a skin tag may be something else. Have the spot assessed before trying to remove it.

Healing depends on the spot and the technique. Your provider will give you a specific aftercare plan and a more realistic timeline at your visit. Let us know if redness, pain, or drainage is getting worse.

A completely removed tag usually does not return in the same spot. You can still develop new skin tags, particularly in areas of friction. Have any new or changing growth assessed.

The eyelids and surrounding eye area require special care. We’ll need to assess the location first and may recommend a specialist rather than cosmetic treatment at Nuance.

Removal done for cosmetic reasons is often not covered. Coverage rules vary, especially if a growth is repeatedly irritated or needs medical evaluation. Ask your insurer about your plan and request Nuance’s current pricing before treatment.
